Our History:
Our Lady of Mercy School was founded in 1950 under the pastorate of Father Francis P. Brady. The very first classes for the school were held in the basement of the ""old Church" on Main Street, while the present school was being constructed. When the school building was opened in 1950, there were 138 students in grades K through two.
Each year another grade was added and by the time the first class graduated in 1955, there were two classes for each grade and eighteen Mercy Sisters on the faculty. These remarkable Sisters were so successful because of the outstanding assistance they received from a very active group of women known as the "Mothers' Club". Later they changed their name to the Parents' Association (with the inclusion of fathers) and today they continue in the same capacity as the Home School Association (HSA).
The seventh and eight grades were moved to the new, expanded building in 2001. |
